Artifact of the Week – John Sandfield Macdonald, razor and carte de visite

A sepia carte de visite of John Sandfield Macdonald, (1812 – 1872), M.L.A. for Cornwall, 1858 – 1872; first premier of Ontario.  This photograph was given away as a lottery prize.

Saving razor and case, the ivory handle is engraved “Honourable J.S. Macdonald.”  The blade, made in England is engraved, “Joseph Elliot’s Best Silver Steel,” ca. 1860.
