Do you know how RACE STREET got its name?  There was a mill there which ran on water.  The water had to be brought into the mill then carried back out. The race bringing water from the mill pond to the water wheel is a headrace; the one carrying water after it has left the wheel is commonly referred to as a tailrace …  RACE Street is exactly where this headrace and tailrace was located!!
