100TH Anniversary beginning of First World War

As we all know, August 5 1914 England declared war on Germany.  Here is the actual timeline of the events of 1914

July 29, 1914 – Britain warns Canada of deteriorating situation in Europe

August 2, 1914 – Canada offers Britain troops

August 5, 1914 – Britain declares war.  Canada is automatically at war as the country is still under     British rule

August 19, 1914 – the first troops arrive at Valcartier Camp

September 4, 1914 – 32,000 men have gathered at Valcartier Camp

October 3, 1914 – the first of the Canadian Expeditionary Forces sails for England

October 14, 1914- The first of the CEF arrive in England

December 21, 1914 – the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry arrives in France.  They are the first unit sent into battle.
