Artifact of the Week. ARC Industries Cornwall – ashtray

 

scan0002A green ceramic ashtray in the shape of a maple leaf from A.R.C. Industries Cornwall, circa 1986 – 89.

ARC Industries Vocational Services was located at 280 9th St W.  In 1986 the factory, was under the management of Frank Burke and sponsored by the Cornwall and District Association for the Mentally Retarded, employed 55 people.  In the same year the ARC opened a store named Sticks and Stones on the Pitt Street Promenade.scan0003

This series of photographs was taken by veteran “Standard-Freeholder” photographer Marcel Quenneville, and appeared in the March 8, 1986 edition of his column Quenneville’s Cornwall.scan0005

These are just a few of the more than 20,000 photographs and negatives donated to the Cornwall Community Museum by the Quenneville Family.
