Artifact of the Week. Electric Bread Warmer made by Cornwall Appliances Ltd., 1973 – 1979.

This electric bread warmer (model 2015) was manufactured by Cornwall Appliances Ltd., between 1973 and 1979 at 1150 Montreal Road.

Fifty people were put out of work when the factory closed.

Log Book, James Begg, Justice of the Peace, Moose Creek.

Province of Canada, United Counties Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry,

To Wit:

Flora McLeod of the Township of Roxborough widow maketh oath and saith that on the 16th day of May instant at Roxborough Philip McLennan farmer did violently assault this opponent by threatening to put her out of her house and making use of abusive language toward her in her own house without any legal provocation on her part.

Flora (x) McLeod – Sworn before me at Roxborough this 17th day of May 1866.

James Begg.

Mrs. McLeod against Philip McLennan appeared before me on the 19th day of May.

The parties were examined.

Peter Grant sworn heard a noise in the house and saw McLennan at the address ___ saw him going into the house, heard him call her an old witch and what he considered abusive language saying he would send her to the devil he said he would throw her and hurl down if she would not quit her tricks.

The verdict of the court is McLennan be fined:

one shilling and costs

fine                         one shilling

magistrate fees    5 shillings 6 pence

constable               10 shillings

witness                   2 shillings 6 pence

to be paid in four days if not tend days in jail.
