Artifact of the Week. Souvenir Teapot Morrisburg, circa 1905.

Is this teapot an example of Meissen China, or is it an imitation?

The teapot is 5.4 cm tall without the lid and 13.8 cm long.  The handle has an old repair.

The item was donated to the Museum in 1992 by a now closed antique shop in Presoctt, On.

The scene is likely from a photograph printed on a postcard first made in 1894, below.

scan0106If this is the image used on the postcard, it has been cropped.  It is dated, Warwick Bros. & Rutter___ Publishers, Toronto, 1894.

scan0107A leather postcard sent September 14, 1907 to Captain L. Mallan, Cornwall Canal Office.
