John A. Chisholm started out as a merchant in Cornwall and in Goderich before studying Law. He was called to the bar in 1869 and began his practice in Cornwall. Chisholm served as Cornwall’s mayor from 1921-1922 – not to be confused with James A. Chisholm who was our mayor in 1912. He spent the final 12 years of his life as agent at Cornwall for the Minister of Justice, Ottawa, dying in 1928 as a bachelor.
