Artifact of the Week – collection of receipts from old Cornwall businesses

Letterhead for a conditional sales contract from Fournier Furniture, 231 Pitt St., 1960.

1968 bill of sale from Albert Belanger’s Hardware, 220 7th St., W., Cornwall. The family lived in the house immediately east of the store. The two-story hardware store has reverted to residential use.

The top of a receipt from Lowe Brothers Paint and Wallpaper, 54 Pitt St., 1950.

Ronald’s Radio and Repair, 1940, 8 Guy St., North.

Ken’s Pharmacy, 28 2nd St. W. (Cornwallis Hotel), Cornwall, 1966.

This is just a sample of the over 350 local business receipts and invoices which Elaine (Filion) Smith, while doing some very early spring cleaning, brought into the Museum before otherwise disposing of them. The receipts were from her maternal grandparents and other relatives.

Thank you Elaine.

Collections such as this add a new wealth of information to Cornwall’s archives.
